Rock Island Gallery
From June 28 to August 9, 2024, Quad City Arts presents paintings by Chantal Danyluk and screen prints by Kate Goodvin at the Rock Island gallery location in Illinois.
Chantal Danyluk is an oil painter whose works are painted on large panels of plywood or MDF board which are cut around the silhouettes of her subjects, breaking away from the typical window of squared canvas. These subjects are whimsical and surreal, often depicting humanoid figures in drastic situations. Danyluk uses tongue-in-cheek visual metaphors to comment on the disillusionment many young people feel about the unattainable ideals of life in conjunction with the pressures of our society. She invites viewers to “contemplate how these serious themes might resonate with them”
Danyluk and Goodvin’s work pairs well together aesthetically and thematically. Their saturated colors and figurative subject matter complement nicely. Each body of work reflects on the burdens of current culture.
